THROUGH THE SWIFT BLACK NIGHT
(2019 - ongoing)
This emerging body of work adopts the aesthetics of computer vision to contrast photography meant for the human perception and photography intended for A.I. The title “Through the Swift, Black Night” comes from the description of a night raid in Homer’s Iliad. Susan Stewart highlights this chapter’s inversion of visual recognition: “In the darkness all territory is without bound or name, all lines are crossed, all acts are improvisational…” I believe this is a productive metaphor for how autonomous devices “see.”
